Kentucky Poison Control Center of Norton Children’s Hospital
Whether you’re worried about developing a dependence on prescribed opioids or are thinking about keeping naloxone nearby, the Kentucky Opioid Assistance & Resource (OAR) Hotline can help.
The round-the-clock hotline — (800) 843-6813 — is operated by the Kentucky Poison Control Center and is available to anyone with questions about opioids.
Many opioid-related questions can be directed to your primary care physician. The 24/7 hotline is another option that provides confidential help with opioid-related concerns.
Naloxone, the opioid overdose antidote that’s available without a prescription from major pharmacies, is a common concern of callers.
“If you carry naloxone or keep it close by, you should keep the hotline number (800) 843-6813 handy in case you find yourself in a crisis and need help right away,” said Maria Chapman, program coordinator with the Kentucky Poison Control Center.
The staff stands ready to help with a full range of questions or concerns:
- How to qualify for free naloxone training and kits
- Concerns about developing a dependence or addiction on prescribed opioids
- How to get and pay for substance abuse treatment including connections to other treatment resources
- How to properly dispose of unneeded opioids
